Watch Ice Cube Complete N.W.A Reunion With Dr. Dre at Coachella Weekend 2
After playing “Straight Outta Compton” and “F–k the Police” with bandmates MC Ren and DJ Yella (and a snippet of “Boyz in the Hood” with Eazy-E‘s son, Young E,) Cube fully-formed the reunion to rabid applause by bringing up Dr. Dre. Since Dre never rapped on N.W.A.’s original output, though, acting solely as producer, the group laid into a newer classic: “Still D.R.E.,” with the audience loudly rapping along every word. They followed it with “California Love,” obviously eaten up as well.
Though he also had presented a guest spot from The Game early in the set, Cube wasn’t done. Towards the end of the set, Kendrick Lamar was visible on the big screens, and soon was onstage, confidently rapping two songs including the hit “Alright” (earlier in the day, the rapper also set in with soul diva SZA). Given Lamar’s pedigree and popularity, it would not be surprising to see him in the headliner slot himself in the next couple of years.
